Iran’s UN Envoy Rejects Israeli Accusations, Calls for Security Council Action
WANA (Apr 24) – Amir Saeid Iravani, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, issued a formal letter on Thursday, April 23, addressing the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council. The letter serves as a firm rebuttal to recent allegations made by the Foreign Minister of the Israeli regime.
Dismissing “Baseless” Allegations
In the correspondence, Iravani categorized the Israeli claims dated March 25, 2026, as “unjustified and groundless.” He described the move as a desperate attempt to manipulate reality and distract the Security Council.
“This is another example of the regime’s desperate efforts to distort the truth, misleading the Security Council by portraying the aggressor as the victim while concealing its own flagrant violations of international law and the UN Charter,” the letter stated.
Violations in Lebanon and Regional Security
The Iranian envoy emphasized that these accusations are a pretext to justify ongoing aggression against Lebanon and other regional states. Key points included:
Resolution 1701: Iravani asserted that Israel continues to systematically violate Security Council Resolution 1701 and Lebanon’s territorial integrity.
War Crimes: The letter highlighted “atrocious war crimes” committed against innocent civilians and critical infrastructure in Lebanon.
Instability: Iravani identified the Israeli regime as the “primary source of instability and insecurity” in the region, posing a direct threat to international peace.
Call for Accountability
The Ambassador warned that continued impunity for the Israeli regime would only escalate regional tensions and undermine the credibility of the UN Charter.
The letter concluded with a direct appeal to the Security Council:
Firm Stance: The Council must adopt a clear position against the regime’s destabilizing behavior.
Compliance: Israel must be compelled to immediately cease all violations and adhere to international law.
Responsibility: The regime must be held accountable for systematic violations of humanitarian law and war crimes committed against regional nations, including the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iravani warned that any failure by the Security Council to act decisively would only “embolden this law-breaking regime” to continue its illegal actions and further threaten global security.
