WANA (Jul 15) – Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has rejected U.S. allegations against Tehran in a letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council, accusing Washington of being the primary source of instability in the region and asserting that the United States is “the aggressor, not the victim.”

 

In the letter, Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani referred to recent remarks by the U.S. representative during Security Council meetings on the Middle East, saying Washington had once again used the Council’s platform to advance “baseless, false, and politically motivated” allegations against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

Iravani dismissed U.S. claims that Iran has transferred weapons to Yemen, describing the accusations as unsupported by any credible, independent, or verifiable evidence. He argued that such allegations are intended to divert international attention from what he described as the United States’ unlawful and destabilizing actions across the region.

 

The Iranian envoy also held Washington responsible for undermining peace and security in Yemen and the broader region, stating that U.S. military operations have disrupted the 2022 ceasefire and stalled the UN-led political process. He further criticized UN Security Council Resolution 2722, claiming it was adopted for political purposes and later used by the United States to justify attacks on Yemen’s civilian infrastructure.

 

Addressing U.S. allegations that the Houthis act on behalf of Iran, Iravani rejected the claim, saying the authorities in Sana’a make their own decisions independently. He reiterated that Iran has consistently supported an inclusive, peaceful political process led by Yemenis under UN auspices.

 

The ambassador also rejected U.S. assertions that Washington has complied with the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” arguing instead that the United States has repeatedly violated the agreement. He said Iran had documented 42 alleged breaches of the memorandum by the U.S. government in a separate letter submitted to the UN.

 

Iravani further accused the United States of launching “two wars of aggression” against Iran, arguing that these actions constitute serious violations of the UN Charter, international law, and international humanitarian law. He also alleged that U.S. attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.

 

According to the Iranian envoy, the United States has continued its military operations against Iran, further endangering international peace and security while undermining diplomatic and mediation efforts aimed at restoring regional stability.

 

He also accused Washington of interfering with Iran’s arrangements concerning the Strait of Hormuz and of using the territory and facilities of several southern Persian Gulf states to conduct military operations against Iran, claiming that such actions have jeopardized regional security and disrupted international maritime navigation.

 

Iravani concluded by stating that, in Iran’s view, the United States has no legal, political, or moral standing to level accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran or any other UN member state.
