WANA (Jul 06) – Iran’s Mission to the United Nations released a video of the funeral ceremony for the late leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, saying the event demonstrated what it described as “the strongest bond between the nation and the state” before the world.

 

In a statement issued Monday local time following the funeral ceremony, the mission said the event conveyed two key messages. First, it said those responsible for the assassination should understand that they had planted “the seeds of hatred and revenge” in the hearts of the Iranian people, adding that those seeds would one day catch up with them.

 

Second, it said policymakers should recognize the realities of Iranian society and end their miscalculations regarding the Islamic Republic’s power structure.

 

The statement followed remarks made earlier this month by Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, during a UN Security Council meeting on July 2.

 

Responding to comments by U.S. Ambassador Michael Waltz, Iravani said the nature of the relationship between the Iranian people and the country’s leadership would become evident during the funeral ceremony scheduled for the following week.

 

He added that while people could close their eyes and ears, they could not change reality.

 

According to the report, less than a day after Iravani’s remarks, U.S. President Donald Trump told Axios on Saturday, July 4, that he had been surprised by the scale of the funeral ceremony.

 

The report also noted that U.S. broadcaster CNN, whose journalists were present in Tehran, reported that the city’s streets were filled with large crowds of mourners during Monday’s funeral procession.

 

According to the report, several U.S. media outlets described the large public turnout as more than a mourning ceremony, portraying it as a sign of social solidarity and a display of unity and resilience in the aftermath of the war.
