Iran’s Upper Hand Against Fabricated Threats and Pressures
WANA (Jul 24) – An international affairs expert emphasized: Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is recognized not only in the field of diplomacy but also in regional and security arenas as a decisive and influential actor.
Ashkan Mombini, an expert on international affairs, wrote in a note titled “Iran and the European Troika Negotiations in Istanbul; Iran’s Upper Hand Against Fabricated Threats and Pressures”:
At a time when negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the three European countries (Germany, France, and the UK) are scheduled to be held on Friday in Istanbul, Turkey, political observers and international media are closely following these talks.
The European countries, which in recent years have consistently moved in the shadow of the United States’ hostile policies, are now attempting to use tools such as the “snapback mechanism” to pressure Tehran into retreating from its principled positions.
However, past experiences have clearly shown that the Islamic Republic of Iran not only does not retreat under pressure, but has always stood firmly and logically by the rights of its nation.

The snapback mechanism: a worn-out and ineffective tool
The Europeans have once again brought up the activation of the snapback mechanism — a tool they previously tried to exploit for political purposes, but which ended in failure. What Westerners must understand is that such repetitive and outdated threats no longer affect Tehran’s strategic calculations.
Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is recognized not only in diplomacy but also in regional and security fields as a decisive and influential actor.
Recent regional developments — including the 12-day war and the clear and heavy defeat of the United States and the Israeli regime in the face of Iran — indicate Iran’s upper hand in geopolitical equations.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, as the main pillar of the Axis of Resistance, has shown that it can shift the balance of power in its favor. These victories are not only military and political successes but also provide strong backing for our country’s negotiating team against the excessive demands of the Western side.
Today, Europeans are facing internal crises, erosion of public trust, the war in Ukraine, and financial, military, and energy dependence on the United States.

In such circumstances, these countries are more in need of maintaining dialogue channels with the Islamic Republic than being in a position to make demands. Any pressure or threat will only lead to further deadlock in the talks — a cost that Europe is currently not in a position to afford.
Istanbul negotiations: an opportunity for the Troika to choose a path of effective and constructive dialogue
In conclusion, it can be said that the Istanbul negotiations are an opportunity for the European Troika to choose the path of effective and constructive dialogue by adopting a realistic approach and respecting the principled positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iran, relying on its military and field power, international legitimacy, and popular support, is not in a position to retreat under political pressure or outdated tools like the snapback mechanism. If Europe seeks a lasting and beneficial agreement, it has no choice but to recognize this reality.
