WANA (Jul 23) – The Prime Minister of Iraq, Faleh Ali Al-Zaidi, leading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Tehran on an official visit and was welcomed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the Sa’dabad Palace.

 

Following the playing of both national anthems and a review of the honor guard, the official delegations were introduced. The two leaders then held a private bilateral meeting to discuss key issues of mutual concern and ways to expand and deepen bilateral relations.

 

During the meeting, both sides highlighted the deep historical, cultural, religious, and people-to-people ties between Iran and Iraq, emphasizing the need to preserve and strengthen these bonds as a foundation for strategic cooperation.

 

Referring to existing agreements, President Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Al-Zaidi stressed the importance of accelerating their full implementation to advance mutual interests. They also underscored the necessity of unlocking joint capacities across the political, economic, trade, transit, energy, and regional cooperation sectors.

 

The two leaders evaluated the opening of new avenues for cooperation as a strategic necessity for the future of Tehran-Baghdad relations. They noted that developing comprehensive ties would not only enhance stability, security, and prosperity for both countries but also serve the interests of both brotherly nations and strengthen regional solidarity.

 

The official schedule for the visit also encompasses a joint meeting of the high-ranking delegations and the signing of several bilateral cooperation agreements.

 

Earlier, the Iraqi Prime Minister’s office confirmed Al-Zaidi’s departure from Baghdad for high-level talks in Tehran, though the composition of his accompanying delegation was not disclosed.
