WANA (Jun 11) – Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, declared on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic will never negotiate under threat or submit to coercion, calling on the United States to abandon its failed policies of military intimidation.

 

Speaking at a UN Security Council session titled “Advancing Political Solutions in the Middle East Through Mediation and Dialogue,” Iravani criticized the U.S. administration’s rhetoric and reaffirmed Tehran’s stance on regional security.

 

“The President of the United States must refrain from his repeated threats against Iran, including the renewed threat of resorting to the use of force made earlier today,” Iravani stated. “Iran has never negotiated under threat or pressure, and it will never surrender to pressure or coercion.”

 

The Iranian diplomat emphasized that Washington should have realized by now that military intimidation is counterproductive. He added that if the United States genuinely seeks a diplomatic resolution, it must abandon the language of threats and engage with Iran based on mutual respect, sovereign equality, and full compliance with international law.

 

Self-Defense and Ceasefire Violations

Addressing the recent escalation in regional hostilities, Iravani accused Washington and Tel Aviv of undermining diplomatic frameworks.

 

“The United States and the Israeli regime have repeatedly violated the comprehensive April 8 ceasefire,” Iravani said. “In the face of these continuous violations and armed attacks, Iran has exercised—and will continue to exercise—its inherent right to self-defense, as recognized under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, in response to any act of aggression.”

 

He stated that Tehran remains resolute in defending its sovereignty, territorial integrity, national security, and citizens. “The United States and the Israeli regime, as the aggressors, will bear full responsibility for all consequences resulting from their unlawful actions and any subsequent escalation of tensions,” he warned.

 

Addressing the Root Causes of Regional Instability

Iravani urged the Security Council to address what he termed the fundamental drivers of conflict in the Middle East rather than treating the symptoms. According to the ambassador, these include:

  • The ongoing occupation of Palestinian, Lebanese, and Syrian territories.
  • Repeated acts of aggression by the Israeli regime across the region.
  • The prolonged U.S. military presence and its “destructive hegemonistic policies,” which he claimed have fueled confrontation and mistrust for decades.

 

“As long as occupation and aggression persist, resistance against them will continue,” the diplomat asserted. “No political or diplomatic process can legitimize or justify occupation or aggression, and no sustainable solution can be achieved without addressing this fundamental reality.”

 

A Blueprint for Regional Security

The Iranian envoy concluded by stating that lasting peace, stability, and collective security in the region require an end to occupation, respect for national sovereignty, accountability for acts of aggression, and the non-discriminatory application of international law without double standards.

 

Commenting on recent military encounters, Iravani argued that the “unjustified war launched by the United States against Iran” proves that foreign military presence in the Persian Gulf cannot yield sustainable security.

 

True stability, he concluded, can only be achieved through dialogue, cooperation, and confidence-building among regional nations, completely free from external intervention and coercion.
