WANA (Jun 20) – Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres yesterday, following continued Israeli military actions targeting Iranian interests.

During the meeting, Iravani condemned Israel’s ongoing aggression and warned that as long as the Security Council remains silent and fails to fulfill its responsibility to maintain international peace and security, Iran will continue to exercise its right to respond within the framework of legitimate self-defense. He also urged the Security Council and the Secretary-General to give serious attention to the impartial implementation of Resolution 487.

Secretary-General Guterres expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in the region and stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire. He called on all parties to refrain from targeting civilians and nuclear facilities, warning of the risk of broader conflict and emphasizing that the current tensions must not escalate to an international level.

Guterres also underscored the importance of swiftly resuming nuclear negotiations and urged all sides to avoid any actions that could further exacerbate the crisis.
