WANA (Jul 02) – Addressing the UN Security Council, Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani rejected accusations regarding the Strait of Hormuz, calling the US the “ultimate betrayer of diplomacy” for its attacks on Iranian infrastructure.

 

Asserting that Iran’s regional actions are strictly defensive, Iravani warned that any violation of the memorandum of understanding would face a swift, decisive response.

 

Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, categorically rejected accusations leveled against Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz during a UN Security Council session on the Middle East. Addressing the council, Iravani emphasized that the United States has blatantly attacked Iranian infrastructure and underscored that Iran remains the primary victim of these aggressive conflicts, asserting that Iran’s regional measures have been strictly defensive in nature.

 

The Iranian envoy described the United States as the primary betrayer of diplomacy and issued a stern warning that any violation of the memorandum of understanding would be met with a decisive response.

 

The Iranian ambassador stated that under current circumstances, where technical talks facilitated by Pakistan and Qatar are strictly focused on implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, the Security Council was highly expected to refrain from holding a session that risks undermining these ongoing diplomatic processes.

 

Categorically rejecting the baseless allegations raised by the United States, Iravani accused the US representative of once again resorting to fabrications and a misleading disinformation campaign against Iran. He further noted that in the midst of diplomatic negotiations, the United States, alongside the Israeli regime, betrayed diplomacy twice by launching two aggressive wars against Iran in flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law, posing a severe threat to international peace and security.

 

Iravani also dismissed the unfounded allegations put forward by certain Western council members and the representative of Bahrain, noting that they chose to ignore the illegal acts of aggression committed against Iran. He criticized these members for remaining silent on such grave violations while attempting to shift the blame onto the victim.

 

Emphasizing that Iran is the principal victim of the aggressive wars initiated by the US and the Israeli regime, the envoy stated that by imposing two unjust wars, they severely violated the UN Charter and international law, including international humanitarian law.

 

He detailed that during the attacks of June 2025 and the period between February 28 and April 8, 2026, the United States deliberately targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, sports facilities, schools, and cultural sites, resulting in the tragic deaths of over 4,800 civilians, including women and children.

 

He added that even the President of the United States and other senior American officials have publicly confessed to committing these heinous war crimes against the Iranian people and their civilian infrastructure, even boasting about them.

 

Iravani stated that Iran strongly condemns the recent US airstrikes and aggression on June 27, 2026, against southern Iranian coastal facilities, designating the action as a flagrant violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter as well as an explicit breach of Paragraph 1 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

 

He further asserted that Iran views Resolution 2817 as a politically motivated directive adopted through a unilateral and politicized process that completely ignores the root causes of the crisis.

 

The Iranian representative concluded by affirming that no Security Council resolution can strip a member state of its inherent right to self-defense under the UN Charter. He called on the council members to demand that the United States halt its illegal actions rather than placing blame on Iran.

 

He warned that if aggression against Iran persists or if the US continues to violate the memorandum, Iran will continue to exercise its inherent right to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

 

He emphasized that despite deep-seated mistrust toward the United States, Iran entered the path of diplomacy in good faith through negotiations facilitated by Pakistan and supported by Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, China, and the Russian Federation.
