Iravani: US Responsible for Unrest and Violence in Iran
WANA (Jan 10) – Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has stressed in a letter to the UN Security Council that the United States bears responsibility for turning peaceful protests in Iran into unrest and violence.
In the letter, Iravani held the US accountable for inciting disorder and violent acts, accusing Washington of illegal behaviour and of coordinating with the Israeli regime to interfere in Iran’s internal affairs.
He said such interference has been carried out through threats, incitement, and the deliberate encouragement of violence aimed at disrupting public order and stability in Iran. “We condemn this destabilizing action, which runs counter to the principles of the United Nations Charter,” the Iranian envoy emphasised.
Earlier, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) said in a statement that the United States and the Israeli regime have not abandoned their hostility and warmongering against the Iranian nation following the 12-day war. The council stressed that the Iranian people, through national solidarity, unity, and cohesion, will thwart the enemy’s subversive tactics.
In a separate statement addressing the unrest and disturbances that occurred Thursday night in various parts of the country, the SNSC noted that insecurity imposed on a nation by any country or system is unacceptable, and that the presence of security and law enforcement forces is aimed at ensuring public safety.
The statement added that security forces and the judiciary will show no leniency toward saboteurs.
The SNSC further said that since the 12-day war, the Israeli regime has continued what it described as oppression against Iranians through hybrid warfare, changing its tactics at times but never abandoning its hostility toward the resilient Iranian nation.
According to the statement, while the recent incidents initially began as protests over market instability, they were later steered—through the guidance and planning of the Israeli enemy—toward creating insecurity in the country.
