WANA (Mar 30) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced the assassination of senior naval commander Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, describing him as a “martyr” following years of military service.

In an official statement, the IRGC said Tangsiri succumbed to severe injuries after being targeted while overseeing operations to reinforce defensive positions and strengthen security across islands and coastal areas amid ongoing conflict.

The statement added that he had recently been involved in operations that inflicted heavy damage on enemy infrastructure and led to the downing of a U.S. aircraft.

The IRGC described Tangsiri as a devoted and tireless commander who had spent nearly five decades in military service.

It emphasized that his assassination would not hinder ongoing operations, stating that Iranian forces would continue their mission with determination.

The statement further highlighted the operational role of the IRGC Navy in strategic areas including the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that forces remain active and effective despite the loss of senior leadership.

The IRGC extended its condolences to Iran’s Supreme Leader Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei, the Iranian people, and members of the armed forces, while reaffirming its commitment to continue operations until what it described as the defeat of its enemies.
