WANA (Aug 31) – A non-compliant supertanker caught fire and was brought to a complete halt after striking two naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy announced in a statement.

 

According to the statement, the incident occurred after the vessel attempted to navigate through an unauthorized route in the southern section of the strategic waterway.

 

“To the vigilant nation: A few hours ago, a non-compliant supertanker attempting to pass through an illegal route in the southern Strait of Hormuz suffered massive fires and was completely immobilized after striking two naval mines,” the IRGC Navy stated.

 

The naval force issued a stern warning to international maritime traffic, cautioning that any vessel violating security regulations in the Strait of Hormuz would face a similar fate.

 

“Adherence to the navigation regulations issued by the IRGC Navy is mandatory,” the statement added. “Shipping companies must not be misled by the provocations of the U.S. military and should not unnecessarily expose their assets and crew members’ lives to destruction.”
