WANA (Jul 12) – The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had targeted and destroyed the command and control center, along with MQ-9 drone hangars, at the U.S.-used Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan in retaliation for recent U.S. strikes.

 

According to an IRGC statement, the United States, through what it described as pressure on the Omani government, attempted the previous night to create an unauthorized shipping route in the southern Strait of Hormuz by encouraging several vessels to transit the area. The IRGC said the effort was thwarted by a decisive response from Iran’s naval forces.

 

The statement further claimed that, following the failure of that effort, the U.S. military carried out airstrikes against several coastal facilities and telecommunications towers along Iran’s southern coastline. The IRGC said its response to the attacks was launched immediately.

 

According to the statement, in the first phase of the retaliatory operation, the IRGC Aerospace Force targeted key military infrastructure at Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan. It claimed that the base’s command and control center and hangars housing MQ-9 drones were destroyed by several ballistic missiles.

 

The IRGC concluded by warning that any further U.S. military action would be met with even more severe responses from Iran.
