IRGC Shoots Down U.S. MQ-1 Drone Over Territorial Waters
WANA (May 31) – The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had intercepted and shot down a U.S. military MQ-1 drone after it entered Iran’s territorial waters.
The drone entered Iranian territorial waters in the early hours of the morning with the intention of carrying out what the IRGC described as a hostile operation. The aircraft was immediately detected by the IRGC’s surveillance and monitoring systems and was subsequently targeted and destroyed by its advanced air defense missile systems.
The statement said the drone was brought down shortly after making an unauthorized incursion into an area under the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The IRGC’s air defense force also warned that Iran’s territorial waters remain under full control and surveillance, stressing that any violation of the country’s sovereignty or territorial integrity will be met with a firm and decisive response.
