WANA (Aug 26) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that reopening the Strait of Hormuz would depend on the United States accepting Iran’s conditions, stressing that the waterway would remain closed if Washington refused to do so.

 

According to Sepah News, Brigadier General Hossein Mohebi, the IRGC spokesman, said in response to a question about the latest situation in the Strait of Hormuz that the waterway is under Iran’s control and that no enemy military vessels are currently present in the Persian Gulf.

 

He added that all enemy warships have moved at least 400 kilometers away from the Strait of Hormuz and that, from both military and territorial perspectives, no vessel can pass through the waterway without Iran’s permission and oversight.

 

Mohebi also said that the waterway located near Oman is fully under Iran’s control.

 

Referring to negotiations between Iran and Oman, the IRGC spokesman said that the two countries had entered talks about a month ago and had reached agreements acceptable to both sides. According to him, the negotiations included agreements on each country’s share of the waters of the Strait, as well as their respective shares of revenues generated from the waterway.

 

Mohebi accused the United States of obstructing the process, saying that this had delayed the implementation of the agreements.

 

He said that if the United States stopped obstructing the process and returned to the memorandum of understanding, Iran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within the framework of the agreement reached.

 

Mohebi ultimately stressed that Iran’s conditions must be accepted by the United States, warning that otherwise, the Strait of Hormuz would not be reopened under any circumstances.
