IRISL Rises to 16th Place in Alphaliner Ranking
WANA (Aug 07) – The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) has risen three places in the latest Alphaliner global ranking, now standing as the 16th largest container shipping line in the world.
This advancement, achieved in just a few months, is a clear indication of a significant improvement in operational capacity and an increase in fleet size.
Key factors contributing to this rise include the increase in TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit) capacity, fleet optimization, the development of regional and international logistics corridors—particularly via Chabahar Port—as well as the implementation of domestic ship repair and modernization programs, and enhanced operational efficiency despite sanctions-related constraints.
If this upward trend continues, IRISL may soon enter the list of the world’s top 15 container shipping companies.
It is worth noting that in the latest ranking, MSC holds the top position, followed by Maersk, CMA CGM, COSCO, and Hapag-Lloyd, ranked second to fifth, respectively.
