WANA (Jun 16) – Earlier today, the main headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) in Tehran — commonly known as the “Glass Building” — was targeted in a missile strike by Israel. The attack briefly interrupted the live broadcast of Iran’s News Channel but was met with swift operational recovery and widespread reactions from Iranian officials and international media organizations.

According to reports, staff inside the newsroom were alerted to the imminent strike moments before impact. However, they refused to evacuate and instead continued their live coverage. Remarkably, just ten minutes after the strike, the channel resumed its live broadcast, with the same female anchor — who had been on air during the attack — returning to the screen.

At the moment of the assault, which reportedly involved four bombs, the News Channel was airing a live bulletin. As the sound of explosions echoed through the studio, the anchor courageously recited defiant phrases and chanted “Allahu Akbar,” saying: “Be aware, the sound you hear and the scene you witness is the sound of an aggressor against truth and justice.”

The building is reportedly still on fire, with emergency teams and firefighters working to extinguish the blaze.

Iranian government spokesman Ali Bahadori Jahromi condemned the attack, calling it a “blatant violation of international law.” He added: “This attack reflects Tel Aviv’s deep fear of global awareness. Media is not a weapon for criminals to fight — it is a mirror that exposes crimes.”

The World Journalists Association also issued a strong statement condemning the strike as “a direct attack on press freedom and the safety of journalists.”

In a separate statement, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) described the assault as “a desperate attempt to silence the voice of the Iranian nation.” The statement added: “By continuing its state-sponsored terrorism and violating Iran’s national sovereignty, the Israeli regime has once again revealed its true face.”

While no fatalities have been officially reported so far, news agencies have confirmed several injuries. The attack has sparked concerns about the targeting of media institutions amid escalating regional tensions.
