WANA (Aug 15) – Hebrew-language media revealed Thursday that Iran hacked the phone of former Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked during the 12-day conflict with Israel in June.

According to the reports, Iran made several attempts to breach the device of the former leader of the Yamina party, ultimately gaining access by tricking her into clicking on a malicious link. The reports did not cite a source.

Israeli Channel 12 said Israel’s Shin Bet domestic security agency informed Shaked of the breach about two weeks after it occurred.

The Ynet news site, citing unnamed sources close to Shaked, reported that the attack only compromised her Telegram account, which did not contain sensitive information.

Israeli media noted that Shaked had previously been targeted by Iranian hackers. In 2016 and 2017, when she served as justice minister, then-Shin Bet chief Nadav Argaman warned her that Iran was eavesdropping on her phone calls.

Shaked left politics in 2022 after her party failed to pass the electoral threshold, but has signaled interest in a political comeback.

Channel 12 added that Iran is attempting to hack other officials, including ministerial aides. On Thursday, the Shin Bet issued new guidelines to government officials, advising them not to click on unfamiliar links and to take additional security precautions.
