WANA (Jul 06) – Israeli media outlets reported extensively on the funeral procession for Iran’s late leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, as ceremonies began in the streets of Tehran, highlighting the large turnout of mourners.

 

The Times of Israel reported that the mass funeral procession began early Monday in central Tehran, with streets filled with large crowds.

 

The Jerusalem Post said the third day of funeral ceremonies for Iran’s former leader had commenced in central Tehran, noting that mourners were carrying red flags during the procession.

 

The red flag, in Shiite symbolism, represents the call for justice and vengeance for spilled blood, and was carried by many mourners as a symbol of their demand for retribution against those responsible for the assassination of Iran’s late leader.

 

Haaretz also described the turnout as widespread, reporting that large numbers of people had gathered in central Tehran from the early morning hours to accompany the funeral procession of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
