WANA ( Jan 28) – Tensions between Iran and the United States remained high today amid continued media exchanges and recent U.S. actions.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, dismissed recent media claims about a new contact with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff. He stated that Iran has made no request for negotiations, addressing the issue on the sidelines of today’s cabinet session.

Meanwhile, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, Chief of Staff and Deputy Coordinator of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army, warned that any U.S. military “show of force,” including the deployment of aircraft carriers, would not go unanswered and could inflict severe damage on the United States.

On the issue of mediation, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s Permanent Representative to international organisations in Vienna, said Moscow is prepared to act as a mediator between Tehran and Washington if requested by both sides, adding that no such request has been made so far.
