WANA (Jul 01) – On Tuesday afternoon, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, held a phone conversation with Ms. Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, to exchange views on the latest regional developments following the Israeli and U.S. military aggression against Iran.

Referring to the consequences of some parties’ leniency toward Israel’s violations and crimes, Araghchi emphasized the responsibility of all governments to condemn these acts of aggression. He warned that any implicit or indirect remarks that justify gross violations of international law and Israel’s crimes will be considered a form of complicity and partnership in these offenses.

Recalling the Iranian people’s resolute defense of their national sovereignty and security, the Iranian foreign minister described the attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities and the killing of Iranian civilians as an unprecedented blow to diplomacy, the non-proliferation regime, and UN Security Council Resolution 2231. He stated that Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared to defend the nation against any hostile act.

Araghchi also stressed that by halting its defensive operations after the end of Israeli aggression, Iran demonstrated goodwill. Unlike the inherently belligerent nature of the Israeli regime, Iran has neither initiated war nor seeks its continuation.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s deep mistrust toward the United States, stating that these acts of military aggression occurred while Iran was on the path of negotiation and diplomacy—and it was the United States that betrayed that path.

He further criticized the positions of some European countries and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) during the issuance of the IAEA Board of Governors’ resolution and their failure to condemn the dangerous attacks against Iran’s peaceful nuclear sites. Araghchi warned that the continuation of this destructive approach would only make the path of diplomacy more difficult.

During the phone call, Ms. Kallas emphasized the need to find a diplomatic solution to Iran’s nuclear issue and expressed support for ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore stability in the region.
