WANA (Jul 09) – Javad Larijani, senior political analyst and international affairs adviser to Iran’s former Supreme Leader, called for bounties to be placed on those responsible for the assassination of the late leader of the Islamic Revolution, saying anyone who carries out such an act “will go to heaven.”

Speaking about what he described as the need to avenge the killing, Larijani said the assassination of the Iranian leader and members of his family in their home was “not a small insult” to the Iranian nation.

Referring to remarks by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf that avenging the late leader would ultimately be achieved through victory in Jerusalem, Larijani said the concept of vengeance should be understood more directly.

He said Iran should compile and publicly release a list of everyone involved in what he described as the assassination, declare that they were legitimate targets, and place financial rewards on them. He also called on “the Muslim nation” to act against those individuals, saying that anyone who does so “will go to heaven.”

Larijani argued that the United States and Western countries had ignored international law in carrying out assassinations inside Iran and said Tehran should adopt a similar approach.

He also said the current conflict had not ended but had merely been postponed, expressing skepticism about the prospects for a lasting agreement.

Comparing the situation to the 2015 nuclear deal, he said the chances of success were low and argued that a war truly ends only when the opposing side concludes that any future attack would come at an unacceptable cost.
