WANA (Jun 13) – Kayhan, a prominent conservative Persian-language newspaper published in Tehran, has warned against using Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz as a bargaining chip in upcoming diplomatic talks, arguing that doing so would invite renewed aggression from adversaries.

 

In an editorial published, the newspaper outlined its stance on potential diplomatic engagements.

 

No Opposition to Talks: “We do not oppose negotiations; what we are saying is that the Strait of Hormuz is the exact pressure point that halted the enemy and forced Donald Trump to capitulate to a ceasefire.”

 

Risk of Renewed Aggression: “We have not an ounce of doubt that the moment this strait is reopened, the enemy will resume its aggression, assassinations, and the slaughter of our people even more savagely than before.”

 

Preserving Strategic Leverage: “The enemy’s greatest weakness is our dominance over the Strait of Hormuz. No rational person brings their ultimate source of strength to the negotiating table.”

 

The Key to Deterrence: “If we seek to contain the enemy, lift sanctions, improve economic conditions, and achieve permanent deterrence to stop the war, all of these demands are contained all at once right here in the Strait of Hormuz.”

 

Warning Against “Empty Promises”: “This leverage must not be bargained away in exchange for a handful of unfulfilled, empty promises.”
