Kowsari: Strait of Hormuz Is Under the Control of Iran’s Armed Forces
WANA (Mar 13) – Following recent regional developments and the release of the first public message from the new Leader of the Islamic Revolution, a member of Iran’s Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission emphasized the role of the armed forces in safeguarding regional security, stating that the Strait of Hormuz is under the control of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s armed forces and that Iran has never been the initiator of war in the region.
Brigadier General Esmail Kowsari said in remarks that the Leader’s message can be summarized in several key themes, including the significance of Imam Khomeini, the role of the Iranian people in recent developments, appreciation for the performance of the armed forces, and attention to regional dynamics and the country’s approach toward its adversaries.
Emphasis on National Unity
Kowsari highlighted the importance of domestic cohesion during sensitive periods, saying that unity among different segments of society becomes more evident in critical moments. He noted that the Leader also stressed in his message the necessity of preserving national unity and solidarity and called for the continued active presence of the people in the public sphere
He added that public participation discourages Iran’s adversaries and that officials must pay close attention to the demands and expectations of the people.
Need to Pursue Compensation and Justice
Referring to the damage caused by recent attacks, Kowsari said that because such actions involved what he described as “brutal bombardments” leading to the deaths of commanders, officials, and civilians, efforts to secure financial compensation and pursue justice for those killed must be taken seriously.
He stressed that legal cases should be opened to address these incidents, noting that this demand reflects not only the position of officials but also the expectations of the broader public.
Strait of Hormuz Under Armed Forces Control
In another part of his remarks, Kowsari referred to the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz and stated that the key waterway is currently under the control of Iran’s armed forces, particularly the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). He added that this strategic capability should be taken into account when necessary.
Opposition to U.S. Military Presence in the Region
The Iranian lawmaker also criticized the United States’ military presence in the region, saying that the U.S. should not maintain military bases in West Asia or in neighboring countries.
At the same time, he reiterated that Iran has never started a war in the region. However, he warned that if a conflict were initiated by adversaries, its consequences could spread across the entire region, and Iran would respond according to the new circumstances.
Relations With Neighboring Countries
Kowsari further pointed to Iran’s relations with its neighbors, stating that the country has friendly ties with 15 neighboring states. However, he said those countries should not allow their territory to be used for hostile actions against Iran.
Appreciation for Public Participation
Concluding his remarks, Kowsari expressed appreciation for the role of the Iranian people in recent developments. He said the public’s presence and engagement during critical days helped maintain stability and enabled responsible institutions to carry out their duties.
