WANA (Sep 27) – Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, arrived in Beirut this morning at the official invitation of Hezbollah. His visit comes on the occasion of the first anniversary of the assassination of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Safi al-Din, the movement’s former secretary-generals.

According to the Iranian Embassy in Beirut, Larijani will hold talks with senior Lebanese officials during this official trip. The discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations between Tehran and Beirut as well as regional and international developments. He is accompanied by Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.

Speaking to reporters upon arrival at Beirut airport, Larijani underlined the historic role of Lebanon’s resistance and stated:

“I came to attend the commemoration of martyrs who defended Lebanon, in particular the late Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.”

“The remarks made by Nasrallah decades ago about the Israeli regime—which some governments at the time did not believe—are today proven beyond doubt.”

“It is now clear to everyone that the Israeli regime spares no country; the recent incident in Qatar revealed this truth even further.”

He further stressed: “Today, many countries are seeking to establish a joint mechanism for cooperation, and we support this path.”

“Iran and Lebanon are two friendly nations with deep historical ties, which in recent years have grown even stronger.”

“The Islamic Republic has always supported strong and independent governments, and we hope Lebanon’s political developments will serve the interests of its people and lead to the formation of a powerful and independent state.”

Hezbollah had earlier issued an official statement inviting the public to attend a “popular memorial gathering” on Saturday. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m., the exact time of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s assassination.

Larijani concluded: “We are hopeful about the future of the region, and today’s meetings in Beirut can be beneficial for all countries in the area.”
