Larijani: Standing by the Lebanese People
WANA (Aug 18) – Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said in a documentary titled “Tehran, Tel Aviv” that the future of Lebanon is determined solely by its own people and that Iran’s role is to support them, not to dictate orders.
Recalling his previous visits to Beirut, he noted that during Israel’s attacks on Lebanon, Hezbollah, despite heavy casualties and destruction, managed to rebuild its capabilities and prevent Israeli forces from occupying the country. According to Larijani, the resilience of Lebanese youth at that time proved that Israel could not overcome them.
He pointed out that Lebanon today is facing internal disputes and seeking solutions, but Iran’s position remains clear: to stand by the Lebanese people under all circumstances without interfering in their domestic affairs.

Larijani also criticized the practice of major powers setting deadlines for other nations, calling it “a humiliation for nations.” He said, “It is not acceptable for a country thousands of kilometers away to dictate what another nation must do within a set time frame, and then offer a reward if they comply. Such an approach is neither respectful nor constructive.”
On the issue of negotiations, he described talks as “a tactic,” stressing that successful dialogue depends on entering discussions from a position of strength: “In negotiations, no one gives you concessions for free; your bargaining power is defined by your capabilities.”
Turning to domestic challenges, Larijani highlighted the need to ease economic pressures on ordinary people and create stable, predictable conditions for growth. He argued that national cohesion is the key to success in diplomacy and security, since security is an interconnected concept tied to economic, cultural, and political factors.

He added that the Secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council also addresses issues such as economic development, given that they are directly linked to people’s essential needs.
Larijani concluded by describing the solidarity and resilience shown by the Iranian people during difficult times as a “national asset” that must be safeguarded against both internal negligence and external pressures.
