WANA (Aug 12) – The Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stated that the Resistance Front is rooted in the people of the region, with each component in its own country serving as a national asset.

Ali Larijani, on the second day of his trip to Iraq while in Najaf, spoke about the results of his visit—particularly the joint security agreement between Iran and Iraq. He noted that Iran and Iraq share deep affinities, including the presence of Arbaeen pilgrims in Iraq. He stressed that the more opportunities are created for cooperation between the two countries in various fields, the stronger the foundation for lasting security will be. The joint agreement, he said, establishes such a foundation and includes a mechanism to monitor its implementation to ensure sustainable security in the best possible way. Larijani added that discussions also covered economic cooperation and shared corridors between the two countries.

Regarding the activities of certain terrorist groups along the two countries’ borders and his talks with Iraqi officials on the matter, he said: “From the discussions I had, I sensed a genuine will among our Iraqi friends to respect Iran’s lasting security, and we are equally committed to it. This agreement will help accelerate the growth of our cooperation in various sectors of Iraq.”

Open to Expanding Cooperation Between Iran and Regional States

On the proposal for a meeting between Iran and other regional and Arab countries, Larijani explained: “Our foreign minister has made such a proposal, which had in fact been raised before—after the ceasefire between Iran and Iraq. He suggested that we work on it in the future, and we said we are not opposed to it. In general, we support expanding cooperation between Iran and the countries of the region.”

The Resistance Front is Part of the Region’s Fabric

On the role of the Resistance Front, Larijani said: “The Resistance Front is part of the fabric of the people of the region. Each component is a national asset for its own country. They have a deep understanding of the circumstances and know what to do in each situation. All efforts should focus on preserving this capacity.”

Larijani announced that on Tuesday evening he would leave Iraq for Lebanon.
