Larijani: Western Powers Seek to Monopolize Science
WANA (Oct 09) – A conference titled “The Rise of Scholars Against the Massacre of Knowledge” was held today in Tehran to expose what organizers described as the joint crimes of Israel and the United States in targeting Iranian and global scientists. The event featured prominent domestic and international academics.
Iran Not Seeking Nuclear Weapons
Mohammad Javad Larijani, head of the Institute for Fundamental Studies, stated that Iran does not pursue nuclear weapons. He said that such assassinations, once covert, are now fully exposed.
“These murders existed before, like the assassination of our dear scientist Ali Mohammadi, but they were previously hidden. The 12-day war made this reality clear: major scientists were assassinated while with their families under the false pretext of bomb-making. Yet, in Iran, according to the fatwa of Imam Khamenei, building a nuclear bomb is forbidden. In the jurisprudence of the Ahl al-Bayt, war has clear limits. As Imam Ali said, our sword must always be ready,” Larijani explained.
He added, “Although negotiation periods exist, we must be determined to enhance our capabilities. Another rule is that in war, we do not have the right to destroy infrastructure. Today, secular liberalism shows what its doctrine of war is; compare this to the doctrine of the Ahl al-Bayt. This fatwa of the Supreme Leader highlights one of the unique features of Shia Islam. Based on this, we are not pursuing bombs.”
Larijani also condemned the recent assassination of Dr. Tehranchi, a radiation therapy specialist. “Were they making bombs? No.”
Western Monopoly Over Science
Continuing, Larijani criticized Western powers for attempting to monopolize science. “They aim to monopolize knowledge. The NPT, which is essentially ineffective, was created for this. Certain sciences are deemed unsuitable for some nations to preserve dominance. They saw nations gaining power; the emergence of the Islamic Republic is clearly significant. One foreign thinker said that all civilizations have perished, yet an Iranian civilization, called the ‘awakened lion,’ remains. He set a test: whether this lion thrives or not,” Larijani said.
He added, “He was not alive to witness the Islamic Revolution’s emergence. Resistance today is one of the fruits of this revolution.”
Scientific Terrorism and Historical Legacy
Earlier, Larijani addressed the phenomenon of “scientific terrorism” by regimes in Washington and Tel Aviv. “If they dislike a scientist, they can assassinate them. This is now exposed,” he said. He referenced historical Iranian contributions to global science, noting that ancient Iranian knowledge influenced Greek medicine, many Iranian scholars adapted Greek science into Persian, and Islamic-era Iranian knowledge spread to Rome.
He emphasized the need to expand scientific ethics. “Scientists should not be deprived or threatened. Conferences like this one raise awareness, and scholars worldwide will benefit from it,” Larijani concluded.
