Latest Status on Fuel Tank Fires in Tehran
WANA (Mar 08) – Fuel and oil storage tanks in Shahran, Aghdasieh, Rey, and Alborz province Fardis, were reportedly struck by U.S.-Israeli missiles on Saturday night. Firefighting teams are on site, and the blaze is currently under control.
Fire Containment to Prevent Spread to Refineries
Officials emphasized that only fuel storage tanks containing oil and diesel were hit, and reports claiming that refineries were targeted are incorrect. Despite the fire affecting multiple tanks in Tehran’s fuel depot, authorities say the blaze has not spread to any refinery and remains contained.
Experts noted that due to the large volume of flammable materials, completely extinguishing the fire is not possible at this time. Controlled burning is being managed to allow the fuel to burn gradually.
According to sources, after the fuel tanks were struck, municipal firefighters assisted refinery teams, but the scale of the fire and the risk of explosions prevented close access to the fire’s center.
Firefighting Efforts in Shahran
In Shahran, flames overflowed into some drainage channels. Operational teams have positioned themselves at safe distances and are actively extinguishing flames appearing in water channels and alongside streets.
Coordination has also brought numerous trucks loaded with soil to the scene, creating barriers to prevent the spread of leaked liquids.

Direct attacks to extinguish fires are generally avoided in such incidents. Applying large amounts of water or foam could cause fuel to overflow or spread, increasing the risk. Therefore, firefighting efforts focus on controlling the blaze and preventing its spread.
Given the high heat and flammable materials, the primary tactic is preventing the fire from reaching surrounding areas, especially residential neighborhoods.
Firefighting operations remain ongoing. While the blaze is not yet fully extinguished, the situation is under control, and officials predict that as fuel levels decrease, the fire will be completely put out over the coming days.
The Deputy Governor for Political Affairs of Alborz Province reported that the attack on the Fardis oil depot resulted in 6 deaths and 21 injuries. Despite the damages and casualties, the province’s fuel distribution network remains stable.
Previously, during the 12-day war, Shahran and Rey Fuel and oil storage tanks were attacked.
