WANA (Jul 07) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to discuss the latest regional developments.

 

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations between Iran and Russia and exchanged views on regional issues following the recent aggressions by the Israeli regime and the United States against Iran.

 

The Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized the consequences and implications of the Israeli and US military aggression, reaffirming the Islamic Republic of Iran’s determination to defend the country with strength and to hold the aggressors accountable.

 

He also underlined the severe blow such military actions dealt to the principles and objectives of the UN Charter, diplomacy, and the non-proliferation regime, stressing the responsibility of the UN Security Council and all states to fulfill their duties in preserving international peace and security.

 

For his part, Russia’s Foreign Minister reiterated his country’s position in condemning the illegal attacks against Iran, including those targeting its peaceful nuclear facilities.

 

He emphasized the importance of taking necessary measures to prevent further escalation and insecurity in the region and announced Russia’s readiness to assist in this regard, including within the framework of the United Nations Security Council.
