Lebanese Scouts Break World Record

WANA (Oct 12) – The largest global scout gathering ever held was the 24th World Scout Jamboree in 2019, jointly organized by the United States, Canada, and Mexico in West Virginia, USA. That event brought together 45,000 participants from 152 countries.

Today in Lebanon, the largest scout assembly took place with the participation of more than 74,475 male and female scouts, marking the anniversary of the late Hezbollah Secretary-Generals and the 40th anniversary of the Imam Mahdi Scout Association.

The Imam Mahdi Scout Association is not the only Shia scouting organization in Lebanon; the Al-Risala Scout Association, affiliated with the Amal Movement and founded during the time of Imam Musa al-Sadr, is also an active organization. Today’s gathering consisted solely of members of the Imam Mahdi Scouts.

Following the recent war, some analysts believed that Hezbollah had been weakened by Israel’s military actions. However, today’s large-scale event—held as an expression of solidarity with Hezbollah’s leadership and ideals—reflected the group’s enduring social presence among youth.

The venue for the event had been renovated by Hezbollah in preparation for a previous funeral ceremony. During the gathering, the organization and security were notable, as scouts entered in uniform and in well-ordered groups, taking their designated places.

After a speech by Sheikh Nazih Fayyad, head of the association, Sheikh Naim Qassem, Deputy Secretary-General of Hezbollah, addressed the participants, encouraging them to maintain sincere faith in God, respect their parents, and pursue both religious and academic education, urging them to be devoted servants of the Imam al-Mahdi.
