- Iran and the United States have entered into a direct confrontation over the issue of the Strait of Hormuz.
- The United States has made concessions regarding the containment and suspension of oil sanctions, but believes it has failed to achieve its objectives in the Strait of Hormuz.
- The United States seeks to restore the Strait of Hormuz to its pre-war status, but in practice has been unable to do so in cooperation with the Arab states of the Persian Gulf.
- The United States has failed to weaken Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz through military strikes and may seek to expand the conflict.
- There is complete national consensus in Iran on the necessity of enforcing Iranian arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, and the Iranian establishment will not back down on this issue.
