Araghchi: Our Powerful Armed Forces Will Teach Aggressors a Lesson They Deserve
WANA (Feb 28) – Iran’s foreign minister stated that the country’s armed forces are fully prepared for the current confrontation and will deliver what he described as a decisive response to those responsible for the attacks.
Seyed Abbas Araghchi recalled a 2012 tweet by Donald Trump, in which Trump wrote: “Now that Barack Obama’s poll numbers are in a tailspin, watch for him to launch a strike in Libya or Iran. He is desperate.”
Referring to that past statement, Araghchi argued that what he called “Netanyahu and Trump’s war against Iran” is “completely unprovoked, illegal, and illegitimate.” He added that Trump’s “America First” slogan has, in his view, been transformed into “Israel First”—which, he claimed, ultimately means “America Last.”
“Our powerful armed forces are prepared for such a day,” Araghchi said. “They will teach the aggressors a lesson they deserve.”

Iran Signals New Weapons After Retaliatory Strikes, Issues Stark Warning to Israel
WANA (Feb 28) – Brigadier General Jabari, an adviser to the commander-in-chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said in a televised interview following today’s exchanges of attacks between Iran and Israel and the United States that Iran had used “older-generation missiles” in its recent response. He stressed that Tehran will soon unveil new weapons systems and warned adversaries not to underestimate Iran’s military capabilities.
At the same time, a senior Iranian official told Al Jazeera that Iran has explicitly warned Israel to prepare for what lies ahead. The official said Tehran’s response will be “public” and claimed that no limits have been set on the scope of potential action.
According to the same source, if tensions persist, U.S. and Israeli interests and assets across the Middle East could be considered legitimate targets—an assertion reflecting an escalation in rhetorical warnings across the region’s political and security landscape.
Escalating Conflict Halts Tanker Traffic Near the Strait of Hormuz
WANA (Feb 28) – Following recent strikes by the United States and Israel on targets inside Iran—and Tehran’s retaliatory response that has intensified regional tensions—international maritime tracking systems report that oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz have largely reduced speed to zero or suspended movement.
According to Reuters, several European governments have advised tankers flying their flags to avoid transiting the strategic waterway until further notice.
Energy market analysts warn that once global markets fully reopen, heightened supply concerns could trigger a sharp rise in oil prices. Such a surge would have immediate implications for global energy security, disrupt supply chains, and add inflationary pressure on energy-importing economies, while diplomatic efforts continue to focus on preventing further escalation across critical international trade routes.
Iranian Officials Report Leadership Unharmed After Claims of Targeted Attacks
WANA (Feb 28) – Senior Iranian authorities have dismissed reports alleging that top state leaders were targeted in recent strikes, stating that the country’s highest-ranking officials remain in full health.
Official sources inside Iran said that senior figures across all branches of government were not harmed, contradicting claims circulated by Israeli sources that the president and other high-level leaders had been successfully targeted.
Parliamentary officials confirmed that the Speaker of Parliament is in good health and was not injured during the reported attacks. Additional confirmations indicated that the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council is also safe.
At the same time, senior officials close to the presidency stated that President Masoud Pezeshkian remains unharmed. The judiciary’s official media outlet likewise reported that the head of the judiciary is in full health.
Separately, the Iranian Army confirmed that its commander-in-chief was not affected by the developments.
These reassurances were issued amid reports by the U.S.-based news outlet Axios, citing Israeli officials, which claimed that senior Iranian leaders had been primary targets of recent airstrikes. Iranian authorities rejected those claims and emphasized the continuity and stability of the country’s governing institutions.

WANA (Feb 28) – Following early-morning strikes today by the United States and Israel on targets inside Iran, regional tensions have rapidly entered a new and more expansive phase. Hours after the attacks, the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran launched a retaliatory military operation against targets in Israel and U.S. bases across the region.
In a statement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the operation was carried out in direct response to what it described as a “joint military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime,” and included missile and drone strikes on a number of U.S. bases in the Middle East as well as military and security centers inside Israel.
According to initial reports:
- Military facilities in Israel have been targeted by missile strikes.

- U.S. bases in Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates have also been listed as targets.
Meanwhile, U.S. and Israeli officials have confirmed that airstrikes were carried out against targets in Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the American military operation, titled “Operation Epic Fury,” has begun.
At the same time, reports of explosions in Tehran and several other cities have emerged, and the sound of air defense systems has been heard over the capital.
