Marandi: Iran Will Not Implement MOU
WANA (Jun 19) – An Iranian political analyst and member of Iran’s negotiating team in the Islamabad talks stated that Tehran will not move forward with implementing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) under the current circumstances, while also issuing warnings about the future of the U.S. economy and regional developments.
According to reports, Marandi wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter): “The Trump regime is in non-compliance. Iran will not implement the MOU under these circumstances. The U.S. economy is destined to fall over the cliff, and the Zionist regime will be severely punished.”
The remarks come at a time when planned negotiations between Iran and the United States have been temporarily postponed following recent developments in the region and Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
Technical talks between Tehran and Washington aimed at reaching an agreement had been scheduled to begin in Switzerland on Friday. However, Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry announced that the discussions expected to take place between the two sides had been canceled.
According to reports, the continuation of Israeli strikes across various parts of Lebanon and escalating tensions on the Lebanese front have become one of the main obstacles to implementing the understanding between Tehran and Washington.
Tehran had previously emphasized that any cessation of hostilities in Lebanon must be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the signed agreement — an issue that has now emerged as one of the key points of contention in ongoing diplomatic efforts.
