WANA (Sep 01) – The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced early Tuesday, September 1, 2026, that it has received reports of a security incident involving a commercial tanker off the eastern coast of Oman in the Indian Ocean.

 

In a brief advisory statement, the agency reported that the incident involved the tanker and military forces operating in waters near eastern Oman.

 

Additional reports indicated that a Saudi Arabian oil tanker named “Sidr” was stopped while transiting the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz.

 

The vessel, described as a very large crude carrier (VLCC) with the capacity to transport up to 2 million barrels of oil, reportedly activated its Automatic Identification System (AIS) unexpectedly while passing through the strategic waterway.

 

The development came hours after the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported receiving information about a security incident involving a commercial tanker near Oman’s eastern coast.

 

Further technical details regarding the exact nature of the event or the identity of the military forces involved have not yet been disclosed.
