WANA (Jul 23) – A group of physicians, nurses, and healthcare workers from Mashhad University of Medical Sciences gathered today in the courtyard of Imam Reza Hospital to express solidarity with the besieged people of Gaza and to condemn Israel’s ongoing atrocities. The gathering, which included the head of the Khorasan Razavi branch of Iran’s Medical Basij Organization, concluded with participants announcing their readiness to be deployed to Gaza for medical relief missions.

Mohsen Zakerian, head of the Medical Basij Organization in Khorasan Razavi, stated on the sidelines of the event: “Less than 48 hours ago, a video was released by medical staff in Gaza describing, in heartbreaking detail, the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe—shortages of food, water, medicine, and the mass killing of civilians. This was a desperate call for help that cannot be ignored. Today, doctors and nurses in Mashhad have come together to declare their full support for Gaza’s people and to express their willingness to assist them.”

Referring to the initiative of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in organizing the event, he added: “This is more than a protest—it is an awakening of conscience. From the heart of Mashhad al-Reza, we are broadcasting this message of righteous anger and humanitarian responsibility to the entire nation and the world.”

Wearing white medical coats, the demonstrators assembled at Shahid Mohammad Monfared Square. They held Palestinian flags and placards bearing messages such as “Gaza is starving to death,” “Shame on silence,” “Stop the genocide,” “Water and food are rights, not weapons,” and “Gaza is the mirror of the world’s dormant conscience.” Chants included “Death to Israel,” “Death to America,” and “Silence from Muslims is betrayal of the Quran.”

At one point during the event, several Mashhadi doctors delivered statements in English condemning the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the inaction of international institutions.

The rally took place amid reports of a worsening humanitarian disaster in Gaza, with the collapse of medical services and widespread famine. According to Zakerian, if conditions allow, volunteer medical teams from Khorasan Razavi are prepared to be dispatched to crisis-affected areas.
