WANA (Apr 21) – Hassan Qashqavi, a member of Iran’s Parliament National Security Committee, stated that negotiations with the United States under the current circumstances are meaningless, asking, “Has the war ended that we are negotiating with the U.S.?”

Qashqavi referred to past warnings from Western officials, saying Iran was threatened with being subjected to Chapter VII of the UN Charter, which, according to them, could justify military attacks on Iranian facilities.

He added, “Back then, whether under the JCPOA or not, they always warned us against going under Chapter VII. Do you know what Chapter VII means for us? It means military attacks on our installations—it could trigger World War III.”

He further emphasized that recent U.S. actions reflect exactly the scenario that negotiators usually try to prevent. He noted, “Even now, it’s unclear whether negotiations make sense at all, because the war is ongoing, and there is no guarantee that the U.S. will refrain from attacking.

Qashqavi also highlighted historical precedent, saying, “If negotiations are to happen, the war must be over—just as Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin met in Tehran during World War II. But the war is not over yet, and we have not reached that point.”
