WANA (Jun 11) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs has condemned the recent U.S. strikes on targets inside Iranian territory, describing them as another clear violation of fundamental principles of international law and stressing that labeling such actions as “self-defense” does not alter their legal nature.

 

Kazem Gharibabadi stated that the latest U.S. attacks constitute further evidence of blatant aggression against the sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence, and national security of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He added that the strikes also represent a serious breach of the ceasefire and undermine its credibility.

 

Responding to the U.S. Central Command’s (CENTCOM) characterization of the attacks as an act of “self-defense,” Gharibabadi said: “Describing these attacks as self-defense carries no legal effect. Under international law, an aggressor cannot evade responsibility simply by changing the label of its actions, and military aggression cannot be legitimized through wordplay.”

 

The deputy foreign minister also emphasized that Iran’s armed forces remain prepared to confront any act of aggression. He stated that, backed by the will of the Iranian people, the country’s military would stand firmly against any attack and defend every part of Iran’s territory.

 

Gharibabadi further warned that full responsibility for the consequences of these unlawful and dangerous actions rests with the United States and any party involved in facilitating, supporting, or assisting them.
