Mission of Iranian Army Submarines in the Strait of Hormuz
WANA (May 10) – The commander of the Iranian Army Navy announced that Iran’s light submarines are carrying out missions in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz, stating that these vessels are responsible for monitoring, tracking, and confronting hostile ships.
Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said that domestically built light submarines are being deployed and positioned on the seabed in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with existing threats, operational capacities, and mission requirements.
He added that remaining stationed on the seabed for extended periods in the depths of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as tracking and destroying various hostile vessels, are among the capabilities of the Iranian Navy’s light submarines.
According to the navy commander, these submarines are known among officers and personnel of the force as the “Dolphins of the Persian Gulf.”
The report added that the submarines surfaced in the Strait of Hormuz during an operation held in memory of those killed aboard the destroyer Dena. After carrying out several formation maneuvers on the surface, they returned to the depths of the sea to continue their missions.
