More Than One Million Iraqis Reportedly Ready to Attend Funeral Ceremony of Iran’s Late Supreme Leader
WANA (May 14) – Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs said that more than one million Iraqis have reportedly announced their readiness to participate in the funeral ceremony of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated on February 28 in a joint U.S.-Israeli attack, according to official reports.
Speaking during a session with the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, the official said Iran had received “very positive and encouraging messages” from Iraq, reflecting the deep affection and emotional ties many Iraqis feel toward the late Iranian leader.
He added that more than one million Iraqi citizens had expressed willingness to attend the funeral ceremony, while several Iraqi groups and delegations had also called for memorial and funeral events to be held in different Iraqi cities.
Reports also indicate that dozens of Iraqi religious processions and popular groups have begun organizing services and support for mourners expected to participate in the ceremonies, highlighting the scale of public mobilization in Iraq surrounding the event.
