Munich Conference: U.S. and China Address Iran’s Nuclear Issue
WANA (Feb 14) – At the Munich Security Conference, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio repeated claims that Iran’s nuclear program has military objectives, asserting that the United States actions in June against Iranian nuclear facilities had contained what he described as a growing threat.
Rubio stated that the international community, including the United Nations, had been unable to limit Iran’s nuclear program, claiming that the situation required “dropping 14 precision-guided bombs by American B-2 bombers.”
The remarks referred to U.S. strikes in June targeting sites in Iran that were reportedly operating under safeguards agreements with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized that the production and use of nuclear weapons has no place in the country’s defense doctrine, rejecting allegations of military aims behind its nuclear activities.
Meanwhile, Wang Yi, Foreign Minister of China, also addressed the conference and warned that the current situation surrounding Iran affects the entire Middle East region. He said all sides should avoid creating new conflicts and urged restraint in U.S.–Iran interactions.
Wang stressed that disputes should be resolved through mediation and dialogue rather than escalation, emphasizing that caution is essential to preserving regional peace.
