Naval Blockade Bypassed, Global Internet Restorations Approved
WANA (May 26) – The Iranian Government Spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani addressed key domestic and international developments during her weekly press conference on Tuesday, held at the Holy Defense Museum, outlining alternative trade routes amid a maritime blockade and confirming the imminent unblocking of global internet access.
Response to U.S. Airstrikes in Bandar Abbas
Mohajerani strongly criticized the United States following reports of American airstrikes in southern Iran. According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces conducted strikes on Monday near Bandar Abbas, targeting what they claimed were Iranian vessels attempting to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
The spokesperson stated that this was not the first time Iran had witnessed contradictions in Washington’s rhetoric and behavior, especially during active peace negotiations. However, she emphasized that Iran’s diplomatic team operates at the highest caliber, backed by formidable defensive and logistical capabilities, as well as high public participation and trust in the military.
She expressed confidence in the ongoing negotiation track in Doha, highlighting the presence of Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Mohajerani noted that given Ghalibaf’s extensive military background as a wartime commander and his understanding of diplomacy, the government hoped these decisions would yield lasting peace for the region and favor the Iranian public, ultimately ridding the region of its current instability.
Bypassing the Maritime Blockade and Managing Inflation
When questioned about the impact of the ongoing maritime blockade imposed on the country, the spokesperson reassured the public that supply chains remain functional, explaining that the government had pre-designed and established alternative routes to counter the naval blockade and that no issues existed in that regard.
Expansion of Border Corridors on the Agenda
The government spokesperson stated that the development and expansion of border corridors are currently on the agenda, noting that Iran’s eastern borders had historically not been sufficiently developed and that the administration had already initiated expansion efforts prior to the war. The spokesperson added that pilot operations have already commenced at one of the border crossings.
According to the official, support, logistics, and prioritizing the clearance of goods are among the matters on the agenda in reforming border processes.
Addressing rising domestic prices, she acknowledged the inflationary pressures felt by citizens, linking them to global economic trends. She remarked that while it was obvious that prices were rising across many countries, the government’s primary focus remained on boosting and protecting the purchasing power of Iranian citizens as much as possible.
Global Internet Reconnection Ordered
In a major domestic policy announcement, Mohajerani confirmed that President Masoud Pezeshkian had officially signed the order to restore international internet access.
She explained that a Special Committee for Organizing Cyberspace, chaired by the First Vice President, had concluded its deliberations on Monday. The committee was formed under President Pezeshkian’s directives to uphold constitutional civil rights and eliminate digital discrimination.
Mohajerani further noted that the President had formally communicated this directive to the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, adding that the administration expected the restoration to take effect rapidly within the coming days to return that fundamental right to the people.
Clean Energy Initiatives
The spokesperson concluded the briefing by highlighting progress in the country’s infrastructure sectors, specifically the inauguration of a 130-megawatt solar power plant project in the Khavar Canal area.
She described the project as a valuable step toward expanding Iran’s clean energy grid, adding that the nation’s total solar energy production capacity was projected to surpass 5,000 megawatts by the end of the summer.
