New Details on Iran-Oman Understanding Over Strait of Hormuz
WANA (Sep 12) – The understanding between Iran and Oman over arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz has entered a new phase, with new details indicating that, following a transition period, the southern and northern routes will be taken out of service and the central corridor will become the main route for maritime traffic.
Reports citing the negotiating team indicate that the understanding between Iran and Oman over the Strait of Hormuz has been finalized. Discussions on the new arrangements agreed between Iran and Oman are expected to take place on Monday.
Iranian officials had previously stated that the Strait of Hormuz would not be reopened solely as a result of the understanding with Oman, and that its reopening would depend on the end of the war and the full implementation of U.S. commitments under the understanding.
According to details that have emerged regarding the Iran-Oman understanding, following a transition period, traffic through the northern and southern routes will be suspended, with vessels permitted to transit only through the central corridor.
