WANA (Feb 23) – The head of the Iran Space Agency has announced the start of construction on the “Pazhuhesh” (Research) satellite series.

In an interview outlining details of the project, Hassan Salarieh, head of the Iran Space Agency, said the Pazhuhesh satellite series has been defined and planned with the aim of developing capabilities in satellite design and manufacturing, as well as advancing satellite technologies within the private sector and knowledge-based companies.

He noted that three satellites from this series are currently in the design and construction process, each intended to serve a range of different applications.

Salarieh stated that the primary mission of the project is to facilitate the entry of the private sector into the space industry and to strengthen its technical capabilities.

Another key objective, he added, is to establish “space heritage” for products designed and manufactured by private entities and research institutions, such as the Iran Space Research Center. Achieving space heritage will help validate the performance of equipment in the actual space environment.

Low-Cost Satellites to Advance Satellite and Launch Vehicle Technologies

According to Salarieh, the Pazhuhesh satellites fall into the category of relatively low-cost satellites. He emphasized that this class of satellites will contribute to the simultaneous development of space technologies in both satellite systems and launch vehicle sectors.

Design Completed, Construction Underway

Concluding his remarks, Salarieh said the design phase of the satellites has been completed and the project has now entered the construction phase. He added that the satellites will be officially unveiled upon completion, and their launch dates will be announced subsequently.
