WANA (Nov 19) – The head of the Basij Cooperative Foundation’s knowledge-based companies has revealed new information about the organization’s next-generation drones, marking what officials describe as a major technological milestone for the Basij.

“The new generation of drones will soon be introduced by the Basij Cooperative Foundation’s network of knowledge-based companies. This achievement is considered one of the most significant technological advancements by the Basij in recent years,” said Brigadier General Hossein Maroufi, Coordinating Deputy of the Basij, during a press briefing held in conjunction with Basij Week.

In line with this announcement, the official in charge of the Foundation’s knowledge-based companies provided further details about the project. He explained that the Foundation oversees a cluster of firms, one of which specializes in aeronautical technologies, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The company has developed a broad range of hardware and software capabilities—covering the entire drone production chain as well as advanced control systems.

He added that substantial progress has also been made in the field of civilian drones. These include agricultural UAVs designed for tasks such as spraying, monitoring crop growth, and meeting various farming needs. The drones are also used in the mining sector for exploration.

The official noted that in industrial settings, the drones are employed to establish non-physical security perimeters and support the protection of industrial facilities.

He highlighted that the Foundation’s firefighting drone has secured a strong position in the domestic market through multiple contracts with local agencies. Additionally, cargo-transport drones with various operational ranges have been designed and manufactured, and are already providing services across the country.

According to the official, the Foundation has also developed an integrated agricultural monitoring system capable of managing farmland under cultivation. This system is offered as a service, meaning that instead of selling drones directly, the Foundation provides spraying and crop-monitoring services simultaneously.

Civilian drones are widely used in areas such as aerial imaging, emergency response, road construction and urban development, environmental monitoring, postal and communications services, mining exploration, water and gas pipeline monitoring, electricity and railway inspection, as well as disaster management. These UAVs typically operate at altitudes of up to 500 meters above ground level.
