WANA (Apr 18) – The tanker tracking firm TankerTrackers.com reported today that an Iranian supertanker has been spotted off the coast of India, prepared to deliver its cargo despite ongoing blockade measures.

The firm identified the vessel as the VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) “DORENA,” which was last observed in Iranian waters just hours before a blockade was implemented.

The ship has now reappeared on the Automatic Identification System (AIS) off India’s southern coast and is scheduled to deliver approximately two million barrels of crude oil to a local refinery on the final day of a U.S. sanctions waiver.

This arrival marks a significant milestone as the third Iranian oil shipment received by India in the past week alone. According to published statistics, these recent transactions bring the total volume of oil purchased from Iran during this period to six million barrels.

The momentum began last Monday when an Iranian supertanker unloaded two million barrels in India for the first time in seven years. Reports indicate that yesterday, India settled the payment for that previous shipment using the Chinese Yuan, signaling a shift in payment mechanisms for such high-value energy imports.
