New Zealand Imposes Travel Bans on Iranian Officials
WANA (Feb 25) – New Zealand announced on Wednesday that it has imposed new restrictions, including travel bans, on a number of Iranian officials in response to recent unrest in Iran — a move seen as part of growing international pressure on Tehran.
Under the decision, 40 Iranian individuals have been targeted by the new sanctions. Those named include Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib, and Attorney General Mohammad Movahedi-Azad. Members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are also included on the sanctions list.
New Zealand officials said the measures also cover three other Iranian nationals who are alleged to have been involved in what the government described as “Iran’s malign activities abroad.”
According to an official government statement, individuals subject to the sanctions will be barred from entering or transiting through New Zealand territory. Officials said the step was taken in response to developments inside Iran and to signal concerns over human rights.
