Obama-Era White House Instagram Hacked
WANA (Jun 01) – The official White House Instagram account from the Barack Obama administration was targeted in a cyberattack, with hackers taking control to post images of the assassinated Iranian military commander General Qasem Soleimani.
The security breach was first reported by American entertainment and celebrity news outlet TMZ.
According to the report, the hackers gained access to the verified account—which commands a following of over 2.4 million users—and uploaded several photos of the former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) Quds Force. The posts were accompanied by a caption stating, “The White House is under Shias’ control.”
In addition to the main feed posts, the perpetrators uploaded multiple Instagram Stories, drawing immediate attention across social media platforms.
Meta, the parent company of Instagram, later confirmed the cyberattack. A spokesperson for the tech giant stated that the account has since been resecured and all unauthorized content published by the hackers has been permanently removed.
The compromised profile is the historic, official institutional archive of the White House during the Obama presidency. It functions independently from Barack Obama’s personal social media accounts.
