WANA (Jun 18) – Sources familiar with the negotiation process have revealed that the Persian text of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the United States was formally signed alongside the English version, with both documents recognized as official texts by the two parties. According to Iranian officials, this was achieved following persistent efforts and insistence by Iran’s negotiating team.

 

A source close to the Iranian delegation stated that Tehran had, from the outset of the talks, insisted that the agreement be drafted and signed in both Persian and English. Ultimately, both versions were approved and signed by the parties as equally official documents.

 

At the same time, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that the memorandum had been signed in both Persian and English. Emphasizing the significance of the issue, he noted that Tehran had insisted on possessing an official text in both languages in order to prevent disputes arising from differing translations or subjective interpretations.

 

Baghaei added that the Persian version fully corresponds to the English text and is considered fully authoritative by the Islamic Republic of Iran. He also described the simultaneous publication of both versions as a sign of transparency in the dissemination of information.

 

Meanwhile, preliminary reviews indicate that the text released by the United States matches the version published by Iran. According to reports, a senior White House official read the contents of the 14-article document, formally titled the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, to members of the media, and its content was consistent with the version released by Tehran.

 

U.S. officials have also confirmed the signing of the memorandum. According to Axios, two American officials stated that Tehran and Washington signed the memorandum electronically and that the agreement has now entered the implementation phase.

 

The report further states that the U.S. President signed a copy of the memorandum during a dinner hosted with the President of France at the Palace of Versailles, after which an image of the signed document was transmitted to Iran and the mediating countries.

 

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson had announced that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding had been signed by the presidents of both countries. With simultaneous confirmation now coming from both Iranian and American sources, additional details have emerged regarding how the agreement was ultimately finalized.
