One Gold and Two Silvers for Iran at the World Weightlifting Championships
WANA (Oct 10) – At the 2025 World Weightlifting Championships in Norway, Iranian athletes delivered an outstanding performance in the men’s 94 kg category, claiming one gold and two silver medals, while also setting a new world record.
Alireza Moeini and Ali Alipour, representing Iran, impressed with their performances on the platform. In the snatch event, Moeini lifted 182 kilograms to win the gold medal and broke the world record by one kilogram. Alipour followed closely with 176 kilograms, earning the silver medal in the same event.
In the total, Moeini lifted 391 kilograms to secure the overall silver medal, giving Iran a total of one gold and two silver medals in this weight class.
This marked the second appearance for both Moeini and Alipour at the World Championships. Last year, Moeini earned silver in the snatch, while Alipour claimed bronze in the total.
Iran’s lifters faced tough competition from well-known names such as Karlos Nasar of Bulgaria, a world and Olympic champion, and Kianoush Rostami of Kosovo, a former world and Olympic champion. Nasar narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth, while Rostami placed fifth.
This achievement stands among Iran’s strongest performances in the 94 kg category in recent years and raises hopes for continued success at the upcoming Asian Championships and the 2028 Olympic Games.
