Over 17 Million Metro and Bus Trips Recorded for Leader’s Funeral
WANA (Jul 06) – The Tehran Municipality’s Transportation and Traffic Department announced that the capital’s public transit network recorded over 17 million passenger trips during the farewell and funeral ceremonies for Iran’s late leader.
Hassan Rezaei, Director of Public Relations for the department, stated that the Tehran Metro, bus fleets, and taxis have been operating around the clock since Saturday, July 4, 2026.
Key figures reported from the start of the operations until 6:00 a.m. today, Monday, July 6, include:
- Tehran Metro: Approximately 11 million trips recorded since 5:30 a.m. Saturday, operating continuously on a 24-hour schedule.
- Bus Network: Over 6 million trips recorded since operations launched at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3.
- Vans and Shuttles: More than 300,000 passenger transfers executed by a fleet of 1,500 vans deployed to assist mourners, including transporting those with physical limitations across the city.
Rezaei confirmed that metro services will maintain this special schedule until midnight tonight, with adjustments if the ceremony runs late.
Full operations for buses and taxis will also continue until all attendees are successfully evacuated from the procession routes. Final transit figures will be released after the conclusion of the event.
